The problem

You can't optimize for AI citation if you don't know whether you're cited.

Google rankings are measurable in Search Console. LLM citations are not. ChatGPT answers a question about your niche — and you have no idea whether it linked to your guide or your competitor's. By the time you find out, you've already lost months of compounding AI-search traffic. CitationDesk closes that gap with weekly, programmatic polling — no manual prompt-testing required.

Case study

HoldLens went from 0 to 10% of traffic via ChatGPT inbound in 14 days.

When we instrumented HoldLens (a fleet site tracking superinvestor positions) with the same citation-tracking method CitationDesk productizes, we caught the ChatGPT inbound wave the moment it started — plus the Wikipedia + Hacker News citations that triggered it. The site grew 2.1× in two weeks with zero new content shipped.

FAQ

The five questions we get asked first.

Why does LLM citation matter if my pages already rank on Google?

Two reasons. First, AI-mediated search is growing fast (per Semrush 2025: 8-18% CTR on cited sources vs 2-5% on traditional SERP #3) and the same content can be invisible to ChatGPT while #1 on Google. Second, citation is a different optimization surface — extractability, entity coherence, and corroboration matter more than backlinks. CitationDesk surfaces that gap.

How does the poll engine reach Claude / ChatGPT / Gemini without an API?

Perplexity has a paid API (we use it primary). Anthropic Claude has an API. ChatGPT and Gemini we hit via authenticated browser automation for the surfaces that lack public APIs. We pass API costs through transparently — Free tier uses minimal calls; Pro and Team absorb costs.

How is this different from Otterly, Profound, Athena, or RankAware?

See our /vs/ pages. Short version: we lead with Citation Readiness Score (a shareable, free audit) and we polled four LLM surfaces from day one. Most competitors focus on one or two surfaces and charge $200-1,000/mo entry pricing. Our €49 Pro tier is built for the SMB + content-creator segment they leave behind.

Do you store the actual responses?

Yes — full provenance (model, query, response timestamp, paragraph quoted, source URL position). You see every citation as a row, exportable to CSV. Retention: 12 months on Free, 24 months on Pro, indefinite on Team. Deletable on request.

Is the Free tier really useful, or is it a teaser?

Genuinely useful for solo creators + early-stage sites: 3 sites × 5 queries × weekly polls = 60 LLM citation checks per month, surfaced in a dashboard, no credit card. The upgrade to Pro is for operators who want daily granularity, more queries, and alerts.
